About Seville Cathedral

Built between 1434 and 1517 over the site of the city's former main mosque, Seville Cathedral is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its bell tower, the Giralda, began as a 12th-century minaret and was topped with a Renaissance belfry after the original was damaged by an earthquake — one of the clearest examples in Spain of a building shaped by both its Islamic and Christian past.

What You'll See

Inside, the Capilla Mayor holds the largest and richest altarpiece in the world, a wall of gilded wood that took nearly a century to carve. Nearby stands the monumental tomb of Christopher Columbus, raised on the shoulders of four kings. Your guide will also take you up the Giralda — climbed via 35 gently sloping ramps rather than stairs, built wide enough for a guard on horseback — for one of the best panoramic views in Seville.
